Every mf cheering for the Great Nicobar project like it’s some big win is an absolute mf with zero shame. You’re literally supporting deforestation, wiping out wildlife, and destroying an entire ecosystem and calling it “development”? This isn’t progress, it’s greed. Plain and simple. You don’t bulldoze one of the last untouched ecosystems and pretend it’s growth. It’s exploitation, and anyone backing it blindly is part of the problem. We’ve already trashed forests across this country for mining and “projects,” and now Nicobar is next. Same story, same damage, different place. You don't deserve shelter, forests, water etc here in mainland Stop calling destruction development.

Thank you @RahulGandhi for bringing Great Nicobar Island into focus. This should have been national news long ago. But where is our journalism? When 160 sq km of rainforest was being marked for destruction, why was there silence? Why does it always take a politician to make us notice? We have already seen forests across India destroyed in the name of mining and development, and now even a fragile island like Nicobar is being targeted. This is not just tree loss, it is biodiversity, tribal communities, and an entire ecosystem at risk. Calling it development does not change the reality. This is irreversible destruction.
Rahul Gandhi@RahulGandhi

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
