@AllThingsDET You shouldn't have a podcast if you don't understand what strong puck controlling players does for a team. We have no defenseman that can begin a rush, or does so regularly. Edvinsson is great, absolutely. But Hughes is a fucking Norris winner. Eddy NEVER will be.

@QLeeMitchell He literally parted ways and he’s said he’s willing to do so if the deal makes sense. Giving up a top defenseman for another top defenseman still leaves a hole on the second pair. Even if Hughes is that much better than Edvinsson, you’re still in the same boat as before Hughes.

@AllThingsDET You're completely right about the extension! But that was for the WILD. he's great friends with Larkin and loves the state of Michigan. so if the right deal was proposed, who is to say there wouldn't have been an extension. Same logic as u.

@QLeeMitchell Doesn’t even include the fact that Hughes wasn’t willing discuss about an extension. I know you’ll say Hughes would extend, but you don’t and can’t know. Giving up Ed + 1st + Kasper/Danielson/Finnie + MBN/Bear for 1.5 years of Hughes is rich for a team coming out of a rebuild.

@QLeeMitchell You’re not understanding that this team has much a problem between its ears as it does in any aspect of the lineup, and that’s baffling. There’s no miracle cure for it. Larkin has to figure out how to lead the team, and needs to learn it with this group.

@AllThingsDET You not understanding the impact a real 2C or another 1C type would do for the wings is baffling. It would propel the entire team. And would shift players into the roles they should be playing.

@QLeeMitchell I love criticizing Yzerman, but we can't just go grabbing players because we want them. And, even if the player is an elite player, it doesn't mean that they will earn us more wins. Right now, the Wings are just struggling with everything, everywhere. They have to figure it out.

@QLeeMitchell He was still a prospect. You said he doesn't trade prospects, but he did and will trade them. Just because he doesn't empty the cupboards as you demand, doesn't mean he's not willing to trade prospects. They demanded Edvinsson, which wouldn't fill the hole on defense.

@AllThingsDET Fedorov went and watched Buch the day before the trade. Clearly Yzerman decided something there. Also Buch signed ANOTHER year in the KHL. Yes, he spent to get a D. but why pay that much for FAULK and not pay one or two more players for Quinn in December. Where's the logic.

@LarsThorsell But it needs to be a 25-30 yr old center. 1C preferably and put Larkin to 2C. If this team has two diesels as 1C and 2C, this team would be superb. So waiting for Danielson makes no sense with this age group. And ASP/Augustine/or Cossa should be included.

@LarsThorsell In '97 we made a huge trade by moving Coffey, Primeau, and a 1st round pick for Shanahan. Changed the team and propelled them into their dynasty. (After the let down '95 Stanley cup finals season) So yes imo, we need to trade massive value to bring in our next 'Shanahan'.

I get not responding to Derek Lalonde. I cannot for the life of me understand why this team can’t respond to Todd McLellan. His comments are typically spot on. At what point can we erase coaching from the list of potential problems? Can these players respond to anybody? #LGRW
