Alice steals Bobs bitcoin. Bob publishes a transaction giving 50% of his bitcoin to the next miner. Miners now have an incentive to rollback before Alice took Bobs bitcoin. The rational point where a rollback could occur is when the incentive is larger than all the accumulated rewards. This works the same with PoS except that the incentive needs to pay for the supermajority to censor double vote proofs.
