Today, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible Communications Officer in Nepal, Alka Shrestha. 🙌 Alka joined Red Panda Network in April 2025 and brings over 3 years of experience in nonprofit communications. She leads creative storytelling that supports red panda conservation and community-based initiatives across Nepal. Driven by a deep love of nature and a belief in the power of storytelling, Alka helps raise awareness of the vital connections between wildlife, people, and the planet. 🌏 With skills in photography, writing, video editing, and design, she brings complex conservation issues to life in ways that are both accessible and impactful. 🌱 The #WWD2026 theme is Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods. In Nepal, cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) is an important part of our sustainable livelihood programs. These plants are grown in locally managed Forest Conservation Nurseries and distributed to community members, who can cultivate and sell them to create alternative income streams. This approach not only supports families — it also helps reduce pressure on forest resources, protecting vital red panda habitat. 🌳 In 2023 alone, we distributed 60,331 wintergreen plants to 26 families in Sidin, Panchthar district, Nepal.
