@rico_ryn OH tbc I don’t mean this about you. You clearly do care about the language use, that’s just…. Well frankly that’s not common for the folks who make that argument lmao

@rico_ryn Yeah the English language is a mess but I’m not about to hyper litigate it when there are insanely bigoted people out here trying to gaslight us into thinking they’re not bigots because “erm thats not what phobia even means I’m not even scared”

See if I remove the 🏳️‍⚧️ from my bio everyone would recognize me as a woman. I’ve done this in the past and gone stealth before and people gendered me perfectly fine. Transphobes are the problem not trans people.

@rico_ryn Idk man it’s starting to seem like you need to argue this to the dictionary instead of me. I have correctly used the term based on the dictionary definition of both phobia, and *more* specifically the compound word “transphobia” it is unfortunately just a you problem

@SecretTyler41 that's because aversion just doesn't fit the definition, the whole definition of aversion is avoidance, not fear. that's literally it. fear fits more due to the origin of phobia.

@rico_ryn So colloquially (and definitionally) it’s just not incorrect to say someone being “phobic” means they strongly dislike a thing, even without a medical diagnosis. That’s just language being complex and changing and we have the words we have 🤷‍♀️ (2/2)

@rico_ryn Very weird, it’s still there for me Regardless, while your proposal is interesting, we do call things hydrophobic and the like when non-animals can’t feel fear at all. Psychologists have also argued being hateful comes from the same place of irrationality phobia’s do (1/2)

@rico_ryn You basically just said “I’m not denying it, it just doesn’t fit.” That’s denying it Also the definition I posted had 2, one of which being about aversion. you are literally admitting to picking the definition you like, but in denial about it

@SecretTyler41 it's not really denying, it is just that the rest of the definition does not fit whatsoever. irrational fear is not the same as aversion, dislike or distrust, when 3/4 of the definitions puts irrational fear, it makes the definition of phobia to be irrational fear.

@rico_ryn I haven’t deleted anything What word would you use to describe someone who has an extreme dislike for trans people?

@SecretTyler41 @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica why did you delete your reply? a lot of out multiple definitions are just iterations of the same point. this is the reason why you cannot just say that the definition of phobia is aversion when aversion has its own thing.

@rico_ryn Starving could imply someone has passed, that someone is actively nutrient deprived, or that someone is very hungry and all of which would be covered by the dictionary definition. What *you* are doing is picking one definition you’ve decided is best, and denying the others

@rico_ryn @DigitalMoltar @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica So you’re the type of person to hear someone say “I’m starving” and go “well uhm actually in a medical sense to be in a state of starvation you have to…” Trying to push a very narrow medical definition of a word is an ineffective “uhm actually” without even being correct lmao

@rico_ryn @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica Yeah that’s the medical definition you’ll see in medical situations. Do you think if I call someone “crazy” I’m diagnosing them with a specific medical condition? That’s why we have multiple definitions of words

@SecretTyler41 @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica that's literally what "phobia" means, it means fear, the fact something was using incorrectly does not mean shit. anything can be its definition if used wrongly enough times.

@rico_ryn @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica Ok now check what the word transphobia means This is what we call a goalpost shift. You’re ignoring the very obvious and clear truth of what it means to be transphobic by narrowly arguing that a medical phobia is something different. Clearly, that’s not the intended use

@rico_ryn @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica Hey dog. You seem to have FULLY missed the point that a root word (i.e. phobia) does not have one static definition across all its uses and, in fact, language is complex and multilayered. You can just *check* the definition

@SecretTyler41 @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica if it wasn't clear, the things you listed as phobia, "distrust" and "aversion" are not correct. distrust is just plain wrong while aversion is not entirely correct though. phobias is a anxiety disorder, not some way to hate or avoid.

@rico_ryn @BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica The word “nice” comes from a root that meant foolish “Cute” came from “cleaver” and was used to call someone sharp or incisive “Egregious” used to be a good thing Big shocker, but words can change meanings, and be combined to alter meaning 😱

@BrandonM96485 @Jaethejaeig @KinaMagica “Normal people” don’t make an entire social media account dedicated to interacting with as many trans posts as possible in a negative way. I don’t think you’re the right person to defend the idea the average person is anti-trans

Make Transwomen men again!!@BrandonM96485·
@Jaethejaeig @KinaMagica The original definition of a phobia was strictly the fear of something. Since transgenders couldn't find a word to describe normal people You guys just started making up shit

@BrandonM96485 @KinaMagica This is just virtue signaling Transphobia is defined as a fear *or* distrust *or* aversion to trans people. You wouldn’t have to try and weasel out of being called a transphobe unless you were illeterate, or the term hurt your feelings

@TheSwingSultan @ChibiReviews If you can’t see how over the course of thousands of years of human society, layers and layers of traditions and superstitions have added beliefs on top of biology, then you have no place calling anyone else retarded. “Shaky at best” Unironically read a book

Before I go finish work, I will drop a truth nuke. There's only two genders and there's currently no technology or science that can turn you into the opposite gender perfectly. All you do is sterilize yourself at this current time. Removing yourself from the gene pool
