@KelleyMarieH I think yes'm/yessum could be used as a gender neutral. There seems to be evidence that is used as an abbreviation of both "yes, ma'am" and "yes, man". I haven't seen an equivalent with "no".

My brother-in-law asked what the "yes/no sir/ma'am" phrase would be for they/them pronouns. He's military/Midwest, so that's part of his understanding of showing respect. I think he's asking in good faith. I don't really use that phrase so don't actually know what to tell him!
