Retweeting this because it's important and people seem to forget the deeper issue here. This isn't just about a movie being "banned" or a ride closing. This is about the villification of actual people's culture and the suppression of their oral traditions.

@Starport97 @KateFisher96 This isn't just a movie. They have irreparably damaged the reputation of actual people's cultural heritage. They are sending the message that these characters and stories that have survived generations of suppression and colonialism are bad. That's not ok.

No. It’s literally because he wanted to adapt the Brer Rabbit stories because they were his childhood favourites. Originally, the film was to be completely animated. Then it was just going to be intro segments that were live action. Eventually it became mostly LA to save money.

One of the things I realized while watching Song of the South for the first time was WHY they chose Song of the South for their big live action/animated feature. Disney says they wanted to put out something positive and magical now that the war was ending. The actual reason is because convincingly syncing animation with real life is a hell of a lot harder than it looks but Disney was convinced they'd be the studio to master this first. You'll notice that Uncle Remus is about the only character in this movie interacting with the animation. He makes it look effortless, doesn't he? It's only until you take a step back and realize that its his black skin and starkly contrasting eyes that are doing most of the work here suspending our disbelief. You are convinced that somehow, this man in real life on an outdoor stage in Phoenix, Arizona in December 1944, is interacting with actual cartoons. This isn't a psychological indictment on Disney, it's on the rest of us. Not that it's anything worth getting upset over, but such are the times.

@eltorus19 Yeah, they love him. I'm pretty sure it's because old Woody cartoons still get aired a lot on TV over there.

@King__Julian7 I agree, I'd love to see him again. I miss the days when the likes of Woody, Fievel and Crash Bandicoot used to appear. I know Crash isn't owned by Universal anymore, but still. It was nice to see him in a theme park.

@King__Julian7 I was sad when they started phasing him out. He gained some popularity around the late 90s due to getting a new cartoon, but after that, he kinda faded away again. He does still have a huge presence at PortAventura World though, and remains popular with Brazillian audiences.

@MiltFire108 @BrerOswald I'm over the games personally. Tired of the constant overreliance on nostalgia and refusal to experiment like in the 2000s. Everything from the paper thin stories, to the uninspired locations, to those same damn character models. It's all just so tired and boring.

@codejsvlogs I agree, I was extremely disappointed with Minions when it opened, and I actually liked the Minions at the time too. I remember meeting SpongeBob in the gift shop and being absolutely starstruck, lol.

@ThemeParkScout It used to be a good ride, it's just a shame it's been neglected so badly. With an extensive refurb, it could be great. Used to be my favourite as a kid.

A character costume downgrade I don't see talked about much is this one. What did they do to my boy? I know the new one has much better mobility, but... Why is he so skinny and why does his face take up his entire body? 😭
