Happy New Year's Eve, Summit County! All county offices and library branches will be closed tomorrow, New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1), and will return to regular office hours on Friday, January 2. The Sheriff’s Office and local Fire/EMS crews will have limited staff working. Public Works employees will be available to remove snow and provide other critical, on-call weather-dependent services. Some Republic Services routes will also be delayed due to the holiday. If your regularly scheduled service day is Thursday, you will be serviced on Friday, and Friday routes will be picked up on Saturday. Questions? Call (435) 615-8311. 📸: Richard Bullough, "Skier at Beaver Creek, Uinta Mountains." Bullough's photo is our featured photo for January in the 2026 Summit County Calendar!

Your Thanksgiving leftovers have probably overstayed their welcome in your fridge. Food scraps like these take up nearly HALF of the air space in our landfill, so make sure you don’t just throw them in the trash this year. Instead, compost what's left! Sign up for FREE food waste collection thanks to Summit County, Park City Community Foundation, and Momentum Recycling to divert any remaining food waste from the landfill. Reminder: If you've moved here full-time, recently bought a home, or rent your property long-term to a Utah-domiciled resident (aka someone who pays Utah income tax), then NOW is the time to make sure you update and declare your primary residency status using the Primary Residential Exemption (PRE) form online at summitcountyutah.gov/pre by THIS Monday, December 1, 2025. A property that is granted a primary residence exemption is only taxed at 55% of the market value of the home and up to one acre of land. The Treasurer's Office mailed tax notices in late October. If you want to view/download your notice online, visit summitcountyutah.gov/treasurer. Taxes are also due THIS Monday, December 1, 2025.
