As bad as gas prices are for you, they can be existential for your favorite music artist. They travel for a living, and then maybe get 90 minutes on stage every few days. Independent music runs on T-shirts and vinyl. You know what to do during times like these.

Here it is, my annual reminder: don't spray spring dandelions with roundup. One flower can be visited by 100+ bees, and your chemical bullshit will kill all of them. If you hate dandelions so much, just pull them. Or leave them alone. It's not like they're going to shank you as you walk by.

You ever stumble onto a clip that reminds you what real American music sounds like? That’s Doc Watson on guitar and Earl Scruggs on banjo playing Cripple Creek. Doc Watson was blind. Let that sink in. No sight. Just instinct, memory, and fingers that could outrun most guitar players alive. Scruggs basically invented modern bluegrass banjo. Watson’s flatpicking changed acoustic guitar forever. Two Appalachian guys. No auto-tune. No smoke machines. No backup dancers. Just hands, strings, and decades of skill. Different era. Different standard. How many musicians today could sit down with nothing but an instrument like that?

Cleveland's country bands are making waves. @shootoutsmusic — "Rust Best Country" is how this Canton group describes its sound, and according to Rolling Stone, they've perfected it. The Grand Ole Opry agrees, as the band made its 10th appearance in the hallowed hall in January.
