Official X Account of the UR-Sweden Programme; a bilateral research cooperation between the Govt of 🇸🇪 & 🇷🇼 through the University of Rwanda

Another proud moment for @URSwedenProgram! Congratulations to Dr. Gilbert Nduwayezu, who has successfully defended his PhD at @lunduniversity in #Sweden. His research uses advanced #GeoAI tools to understand why child stunting differs from one community to another. This work gives #Rwanda more accurate, local-level information that can help leaders plan better nutrition programs, especially in rural areas where data is often limited. This achievement shows how 🇷🇼 &🇸🇪 bilateral research partnership directly contributing to healthier families and stronger communities in Rwanda. Proud of you, Dr. Gilbert!

Driving innovation for smarter #Water 💧management! With support from the @URSwedenProgram, UR today convened a stakeholder workshop on Sustainable Solutions for #Water Resources Management. Five UR staff currently pursuing their PhDs in #Sweden showcased their impressive research to policymakers, fellow researchers, practitioners, and private-sector actors committed to strengthening Rwanda’s water management sector. The workshop highlighted key challenges in managing the country’s water resources and emphasized the need for multidisciplinary, collaborative solutions. These efforts aim to ensure the quantity and quality of water resources need to be managed to support productive and climate-resilient livelihoods across Rwanda.

First Counsellor @G_Umutesi welcomed students from Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary & France, visiting with Prof. @LinleyCKarltun. They discussed Rwanda’s rise after the Genocide against the Tutsi, and choosing unity, responsibility & thinking big for a better future.

Best news to start the weekend! 🎉 Under the @URSwedenProgram, Minister of Youth and Arts Jean Nepo Utumatwishima adds to #Rwanda's growing critical mass of PhD holders following his successful doctoral defense at Gothenburg University, #Sweden. Originally a medical doctor, Dr Utumatwishima, PhD examined how household dynamics influence child #stunting and proposed holistic, multisectoral solutions that go beyond nutrition-based interventions. We commend his resilience and hard work despite a demanding cabinet schedule, and extend our appreciation to the #Undernutrition Subprogram team and supervisors for their support throughout this journey.

I am honored to present part of my #PhD research on #GroundwaterQuality & #Hydrogeochemistry in #Southeastern Rwanda at #GSAConnects2025 in San Antonio, Texas 🇺🇸! Special thanks to Prof. Prosun Bhattacharya for providing me with this opportunity.

Celebrating 🎉 Dr. Marie Anne Mukasafari for successfully defending her PhD thesis at SLU, #Sweden! Her research proposes strategies to improve animal husbandry; boosting both the quantity and quality of milk, reducing #stunting and enhancing household livelihoods in #Rwanda.
