#vss365 #Dichotomous The Ghost in the Gallery: Redefining Influence for the Modern Archive By Gabriela Marie Milton On Influencers and Bots In the current digital landscape, we are obsessed with the word "Influencer." It is a title bestowed by algorithms and validated by metrics. But as I look at the steady growth of my own platforms—now reaching over 50 000 souls across Instagram and X—I find myself standing at a crossroads. The Illusion of the Crowd On social media, we are often haunted by "ghosts." You may notice them in your own feeds—private accounts, profiles with no photos, or users who leave a hundred generic comments a day. In the "influencer" economy, these are often dismissed as noise or bots. And while many are indeed automated "parasites" seeking to anchor themselves to a reputable name, there is a deeper layer that we, as creators and thinkers, must recognize. In the literary worlds, real influence is often silent. The "empty" account following you is frequently not a bot, but a "Passive Professional." They are the professors, the curators, the editors, and the serious readers who have zero interest in the "performance" of social media. They aren't there to post; they are there to observe, to curate, and to wait for the next landmark work. From Popularity to Authority The standard influencer model is built on horizontal reach—how many people can you get to look at you right now? At Literary Revelations, we operate on vertical excellence. Our goal isn't to be "viral"; it is to be archival. When your work is accepted into a museum or a temple archive in Japan, the "influence" you wield is no longer about a daily follower count. It becomes an institutional weight. You stop being a "content creator" and start becoming a Gatekeeper. The Strategy of the Walled Garden. People often ask me if I worry about the "lurkers" or the political noise that inevitably drifts into a large public square. My answer is simple: The art is the filter. By maintaining a "walled garden" aesthetic—focusing on the cinematic, the historical, and the poetic—we naturally discourage the low-effort trends. We don't need to audit every follower. We need only to ensure that the content we provide is of such high quality that it acts as its own security system. If a bot follows a prestigious press, it gains a sliver of unearned credibility. But if a serious poet follows that same press, they find a home. Looking Toward the Horizon: May and June As we prepare for the May launch of Haiku for Soulmates—an anthology featuring 200 international voices—and the June release of my debut mystery thriller, Jezebel’s Island, the definition of influence remains unclear to me. However, influence isn't about how many people follow you; it’s about what you can offer to people. As Literary Revelations prepares for the release of Haiku for Soulmates, I hope we can offer you beauty and meaning. @LR_Publisher #haikuforsoulmates #gabrielamariemilton #influencer
