If they wanted to offer the money USA did, or even slightly less, WWE would have made the deal based on far greater exposure. It was the FOX decision not to offer the money. It was in their hands.

@SeanRossSapp A contract ending is the same thing as a cancellation. FOX chose not to continue the business relationship at the higher price WWE was seeking. Based on comments by the FOX CEO and estimates by Wells Fargo, it's unlikely that FOX would've kept Smackdown even at the 2019 price.

They could actually build a fun storyline/feud with LA Knight where Gunther obnoxiously says that he doesn’t have to kill his career because it’s already dead. I hate the idea of LA Knight taking another big loss (though that has to be the ending) but it’s a high profile match.

An update: I've been told that AEW nor WBD made Ricochet apologize. AEW officials told him afterwards it was the right thing to do.
