How to support your Partner through #perimenopause An incredible listener of our @BBC5Live Podcast ‘That Time Of The Month’ got in touch asking how he can truly support his wife through perimenopause without losing the connection between them. @TVNaga01 and @DrEkechi and I had lots of advice: 1. Talk, talk, talk 2. When she expresses she’s going through something, make a habit of asking if she needs help or needs an ear. Not every problem she’s going through can be problem-solved 3. Avoid any form of dismissal. Validation of what she is experiencing can be so helpful 4. She knows her body the best! Every woman has a different timeline, symptoms, order of events, etc. Taking others’ word/experience means little compared to her own 5. Encourage that more information and supporting is coming out now than ever before, and give her faith to believe she will get through this Producer: @alisonacton 🎧Listen back to the podcast episode on BBC5Live: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0…

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) affects around 1 in 5pregnant women & birthing people to some degree. While common, it is NOT a normal part of pregnancy We discussed this in detail on our @bbc5live podcast ‘That Time Of The Month’ and covered on @BBCNews 🔗 'I could hardly walk' - the issue that affects one in five mums. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… 🎧That Time of The Month: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0… @TVNaga01 @DrEkechi @alisonacton

Periods are MORE than just a monthly 🩸 bleed- it has a psychological impact too. Here is a snippet of our discussion around why it’s important that parents - in particular #dads know about #periods. Having a menstrual cycle is more than just the bleed, it affects the whole body & causes #psychological symptoms. Endometriosis is a whole body, lifelong inflammatory condition whereby cells similar to the endometrial lining are deposited outside in the pelvis causes adhesions & scarring Adenomyosis- is a lifelong, whole body condition whereby cells similar to the lining of the womb grown in the muscular wall of the uterus, causing inflammation and stiffening/ bulking of the uterus PCOS is a lifelong, whole body metabolic condition that impacts insulin resistance and affects androgen levels. There can be cysts in the ovaries for some Fibroids is a whole body condition that causes non-cancerous growths in and around the uterus leading to heavy, painful periods and anaemia Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a lifelong, whole body neurobiological condition whereby the rise and full of hormones impacts the neurotransmitters in the brain causing symptoms such as depression, rage, anxiety, suicidal thoughts typically 1-2weeks before menstruation Can you see the pattern?
