People talk about what they know about anime being always about highschoolers when they don't read/watch anime and mangas featuring older characters. They don't talk about mangas adapted into live action J drama because it isn't fantasy/superpowered setting.

We're seriously still doing the "everybody liked anime in the 2000s you were just weird (autistic)" thing? Man if you watched anything with a Japanese title back then you got called a fäggot on-sight, the anime that "everybody liked" included Dragon Ball Z and that was it

I doodled this 3 years ago and it still holds up today.

Japan has actual free creative expression that isn't bounded by the trashy standards that we suffer from in America and that's why people like it. In America everyone blurts out their opinion in daily life and restrains themselves creatively, in Japan it's the opposite.

Increasingly worrying how many people conflate an in-universe explanation as a valid defense of something. As long as it is "explained" they think you cannot ever have an issue with the way a character or a story is handled in fiction.
