Yesterday we made our physician pledge. Proud to have shared this journey with so many truly kind hearted, talented people. Immensely grateful to my teachers, the patients who generously allowed us to learn from them & my family & friends. It’s been a pleasure & a privilege ❤️

@BoneJeni @Asher_Wolf Individual NPs do not, on average, have 21+ years of experience. Nor do they do 11+ years of study including post grad fellowship exams with a 60% pass rate to provide medical advice to undifferentiated patients. NPs are not equivalent to GPs. This patient’s frustration is valid.

In view of this platform’s increasingly transphobic policies I am disengaging from here for the foreseeable future (it’s been a slow decline ever since the sale, really!). Ciao amigos 👋

Rapid tests increasingly shaping up as the key tool to managing omicron (esp for identifying people who are likely to be infectious). Nice summary from @fabian_kong on which kits work best *now if only supply and cost weren’t such big barriers (thanks ScoMo 🙄)

I’ve done a rapid review on some rapid tests in AUS. Definitely big differences in accuracy and amount of virus to work. GREEN ones under “brand” is what I recommend (Orawell saliva my choice)

This is good news, but milder doesn’t mean everybody; a small proportion still fall very ill & a huge surge will translate into a large number of the very ill. Sensible public health measures including masks and social distancing remain so important as does being fully vaccinated

Data from London's Omicron experience that replicates much of what we had seen in South Africa regarding uncoupling (cases vs severe disease), less severity, less need for mechanical ventilation, rapid ascent/descent

‘We’re all going to get COVID’ is not an excuse to abandon preventive policies. With precautions the incidence will take place over longer time period which reduces likelihood that health services will be overwhelmed

Excellent thread - highlights limitations with generalizing UK data on Omicron and vaccine effectiveness to Australia not least because of differences in prevalence of past infections between the two populations (less past infection in Aust = likely more severe illness)
Dr. Deepti Gurdasani@dgurdasani1

🧵on the Imperial study on omicron severity TL;DR: -*intrinsic* omicron severity similar/bit lower to delta -*observed* severity lower due to omicron more likely to re-infect -vaccine efficacy against hosps maintained -growth rate likely to override impact of lower severity

Public health nerd alert! Happy to report nothing other than pure relief and liberation knowing I’m well protected, 5 months post vaccination against COVID-19. This cute shirt is by local illustrator Beck Feiner - check out their equally adorable tributes to our CHO!
