Ryukyu should be independent. The Potsdam declaration specified that Japanese sovereignty will be limited to the main home islands. Excluding Ryukyu (Okinawa). In 1971 the US only transferred the administrative rights of Ryukyu to Japan not its sovereignty. So, Ryukyu should not be a part of Japan. This is makes legal and humanitarian sense.
