Two things I will like to note: Firstly, Amortization is not automatic for every player sale. Selling clubs hold the key on how long the deal with spread. A player with only 6 months or 1 year left on his existing contract cannot go and sign a deal with another club for 5 years and have the financial value spread through the length of the years he’s signing with that new club. Secondly, a club that is still paying the transfer value of a player they signed on amortization agreements cannot just go and extend that player’s contract and then claim to the club they bought him from, that on the basis of the new deal, they amortization is now going to be spread for a longer period. It doesn’t make sense, and in any case, most extended deals happen on the basis of either increased or decreased wages. This means that the basis for contract extensions is often on the basis of new terms between player and club, which has little to do with the old deal which involves a 3rd party, ( in this case, the player’s old club). Old clubs often get involved when a player moves, if they have done the wise thing of inserting a sell-on % in the terms by which they sold the player or required that they be offered the player first, before others are given the right to buy him. Without these two clauses, old clubs have nothing to do with contract extensions and whatever money they are owed cannot be delayed on the basis of a contract extension between their old player and his new club.
