deeper dive since my prediction struck a nerve: cursor raised at $10B valuation 50 employees, $300M ARR we’ll do the math on those numbers in a second i was early adopter (early 2023) deployed it at robinhood now building coding agents for non-engineers here's their trap: they built the perfect IDE for developers massive growth, real revenue, happy users but they control no center board territory in chess, you need squares that matter in the endgame cursor owns: - distribution to developers (who are disappearing) - a UI layer on openai/anthropic (who compete directly) - workflows for human coding (which won't exist) zero strategic position for what's next meanwhile: anthropic ships claude code - better margins, direct to users openai has their own - same story cursor is the middleman in a direct world back to that math: $300M revenue, 50 people, billion in funding paying their competitors for every query -300% gross margins cursor: spent $1B making developers 10x faster at becoming obsolete

it doesn’t matter if your revenue split is 70/30, 60/40, or even 50/50 creators want to earn more money. point blank period and they sure as hell don’t want to pay for a SaaS tool unless there is a clearly defined ROI - even then they are skeptical
