In 1968, a small group of Irish people saw suffering and famine in Biafra, and they didn’t wait for the world to act. Our community has grown, but our mission remains the same - because ending extreme poverty, wherever it is in the world, is our Concern. #ItsOurConcern #ConcernWorldwide

"This is more than production; it’s a strategic shift toward sustainable income and improved nutrition outcomes." Learn how our @Irish_Aid funded Hanaano programme is working with mother-to-mother support groups to improve nutrition and tackle childhood malnutrition.

From Subsistence Farming to Resilient Livelihoods: How #HanaanoProgramme Is Driving Nutrition and Income Transformation in Rhamu, Mandera. In Rhamu, Mandera, Kulmiye Mother-to-Mother Support Group (MtMSG) is redefining farming pathways, transitioning from small-scale production into a resilience-driven livelihood model. What began with vegetables, maize, cowpeas, and watermelon has expanded into papaya cultivation, deliberately diversifying crops to strengthen household resilience, improve food security, and enhance dietary diversity. This is more than production; it’s a strategic shift toward sustainable income and improved nutrition outcomes. Through the Hanaano Programme implemented by @RACIDA_Ngo in partnership with @Concern and funded by @Irish_Aid , MtMSGs are proving to be high-impact platforms, equipping women with the skills, knowledge, and agency to move from subsistence to sustainable livelihoods.

'I paid for my children's school fees, there is food in my home, I have what I need.' Working with @wearekerry, the ALIVE programme in Tana River, Kenya has been supporting people to transform their lives through farming, helping build food security and sustainable nutrition in the region. One of those people is Maureen. She shared her experience of navigating life as a single mother, and how becoming part of the Bright Future Group, supported through the Kerry-Concern partnership, has helped her support her family. We are grateful to @wearekerry for their continued support on the ALIVE partnership in Kenya 🤝 #Community #FoodSecurity #SustainableNutrition

"Rainfall should be a universal blessing during a drought, but it can paradoxically become a curse. Scorched by prolonged heat, the earth compacts until it can no longer absorb water, sending it rushing toward Lake Turkana instead." @abdullah_sabri_ of the @BelTel recently visited Concern's programmes in Turkana, witnessing first hand the devastating effects of drought on children's health, livestock and the wider community. bit.ly/41keUpW

An estimated 4.9 million children died before their 5th birthday in 2024, including 2.3 million newborns, according to new estimates released today. Most of these deaths are preventable with proven, low-cost interventions and access to quality health care. Concern’s health and nutrition programmes in some of the world’s poorest countries focus on under-fives and pregnant and breast feeding women. bit.ly/4sXNGBr

𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: #𝑯𝑨𝑵𝑨𝑨𝑵𝑶 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒎𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆-𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 16,000 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒂 For months, Yabicho B location in Mandera County relied on a deteriorated shallow well system, struggling with low pressure, leakages, and inconsistent supply. Today, clean water flows steadily from newly rehabilitated water kiosks, supported by an upgraded, climate-resilient system built for reliability and sustainability. This complete rehabilitation was implemented through the #HANAANO Programme by @RACIDA_Ngo in partnership with @Concern and funded by @Irish_Aid, a strategic investment designed to strengthen water systems as a frontline defense against vulnerability and child wasting in Mandera Triangle’s drought-prone context. What once meant long queues, unreliable access, and unsafe water has been replaced with a structured and efficient supply network. A 50m³ elevated steel tank now boosts pressure and storage capacity. Transmission pipelines have been repaired and optimized. Chlorine dosing units ensure continuous water treatment and safety. New sanitation facilities reinforce hygiene and public health outcomes. At the kiosk, mothers fill their jerrycans with confidence. Children no longer walk long distances in search of water. The system delivers, consistently. The impact is measurable: over 12,000 households in Yabicho B now access reliable, safe water, with an additional 4,150 households in neighboring villages supported during periods of scarcity. This is more than infrastructure rehabilitation. It is resilience in action, restoring dignity, strengthening community systems, and securing a safer future. #RACIDA #HANAANO #PreventingWasting #ManderaTriangle.
