Special thanks to @FChrisBennett and @nachoriko for the wonderfully written primer on our new microglia cannibalism publication. It’s so amazing when such exceptional scientists write about our work!
PLOS Biology@PLOSBiology

Microglia can selectively clear neurons, but what else do they eat? @FChrisBennett & @nachoriko explore a #PLOSBiology study showing that #microglia also cannibalize other microglia, followed by microglial necroptosis Primer: plos.io/4f7sXEs Paper: plos.io/3Aj1JvE

@micro_glia It's a great question but most the clearance we detected occurred after the cells die.

We are excited that our work describing microglia cannibalism is now officially in press! journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar… Stay tuned because we are on to the genetic mechanisms! 😀

We are seeking researchers who investigate the development, regeneration, and function of the nervous system, as well as the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying health and disease, detection, and treatment.

I am excited for our most recent publication led by Jake Brandt (now postdoc with @SD_Ackerman). Jake's work reveals spontaneous activity in DRG glia in the early phases of its assembly. Interestingly to us, a part of the activity was dependent on mechanical channels. 🧵👇
PLOS Biology@PLOSBiology

.@cssmity &co show that satellite #GlialCells in the #PNS display isolated spontaneous Ca2+ transients, sensitive to #mechanosensitive protein #Piezo1, revealing a role for #mechanobiology in the activity of developing neural cells #PLOSBiology plos.io/3t0Ko6w

I can't believe how satisfying it is to work with research teams like the deep squad assembled by Cody @cssmity (now Jake moved onward to PD with another @3i_inc customer Sarah @SD_Ackerman.) This thread is fantastic and the research is as well. Congrats to the whole team.👇🧵🔬

Jake's contribution to the lab was so important for our future work! In particular, he introduced calcium imaging to the lab, which opens up our ability to do circuit analysis (coming soon!)!
