In 2017, Microsoft shut down the Photosynth app and site. An enormous amount of data. Archive Team grabbed as much as it could, but then we had a huge lump of data.
Singlehandedly, Henri Astre brought it back. @dddexperiments/one-javascript-trick-that-i-used-to-preserve-photosynth-6e6f8ba2c48a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@dddexperiment… Further explanation: @dddexperiments/why-i-preserved-photosynth-2f670d5c8dec" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@dddexperiment…
@GeraldGoodwin19 The backup copies on @internetarchive don't get embedded in @twitter like the original site did, but clicking on the link and viewing the site in a separate browser window/tab still does (if people can be convinced to click on a plain text link on Twitter w/ no thumbnail image).
Brilliant dreamer, lovely human, and fellow Googler Henri Astre @dddexperiments has recreated Photosynth2 for the Internet Archive, and for the ages. A small piece of internet history and an epic bit of hacking. Hats off @dddexperiments/why-i-preserved-photosynth-2f670d5c8dec" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@dddexperiment…
