This isn't the first time Yanineko "Chainsmoker Cat" was attacked. Back in 2023, there was a lot of online and targeted harassment against Nyannyan Factory, the creator of the story. The harassment got so bad, including an attempt to "cancel" the manga, that Kodansha had to release a statement about it, WITH threats of legal action against the most malicious. Some of the Japanese manga readers were so grossed out due to the visceral, raw, unromanticized addiction spiral + heavy grossout humor + zero pandering... that they engaged in that harassment campaign. This was mixed in with professional jealousy from other rival manga authors who felt it was disgusting that a manga like Yanineko became popular while "their" more "cultured" creation did not. It's niche, it's weird, it's gross, and you don't have to like it, but it 100% has the right to exist. And seriously... stop with the harassment campaign against it. It's just another rerun of the same BS from 2023 now in 2026.

Incoming personal rant. I so rarely do these anymore. I will never understand why people think emotionally blackmailing or guilt tripping others will ever work out favorably for them. We were invited to 4th of July with my mother in law yesterday, completely last minute after we had already grilled our own hot dogs and purchased movie tickets. We have never celebrated the holiday with them before. So Vin politely tells his mom we can't make it. So she invited us today, to come over so Vin decides he will go and take the dog. I chose to stay home because I've been avoiding people this year and his mom is an emotional woman. Between Faekatters stealing 23 years of history I created and holding it hostage because I like video games they want to cancel and my family acting like I'm a devil for having common sense, I've bowed out on this year, at least socially. And I've been happy. My blood pressure has been the most fantastical it has been in years. Absolutely beyond perfect. I tell people often that I'm an empath, the real deal and the only way I can have any quiet is when I avoid people but they never listen. Vin is not an emotional person, it's why he and I get along so well. He is my peace and quiet. I always tell people how much I crave that peace and quiet. The signs have always been there but no one pays attention to anything I say. Story of my life. Anyway, my husband texted my mother in law that I was going to stay home today and she took personal offense to it and called me to tell me and I quote, "What would happen if I die when I go to Spain?" What? Why did this suddenly escalate to sudden death over last minute plans. This is why I feel like I'm not a normal woman. I don't think like any other woman I've ever met in my life. This is madness and theatrics. So I gave the phone to my husband. She cried at him on the phone. I sat there looking completely dumbfounded because I was completely dumbfounded. I went from feeling confusion to feeling guilt that she was crying so I tell her not to cry and try to explain not everything is about her. I don't want to hurt her feelings. I didn't even do anything to hurt her feelings. She then tells me that the only way to get through my depression is to make public appearances. No, avoiding people is my path to personal contentment and peace and quiet. I find the emotions of people loud. I see it in their expressions. Their body language. I don't need the noise for it to get suffocating. My empathy has taken a hit this year. It's on the cusp of fritzing out completely. I can't get this through to people that refuse to listen to me. Sorry to any that have been affected by it. It's people that make me miserable.
