@ninkibah @Bodenseeperlen super interesting! wondering if there is still a market for highly valuable chess books. those collectors seem to be a dying breed
English

GM Lothar Schmidt's chess collection is going up for auction. The article mentions that he made his money from publishing the Karl May books, which were highly popular cowboy stories written in German! Yeehaw!

new: Unlock Your Chess Creativity
The English chess explosion of the 1970s lit the fuse for a golden era in the 1980s, when a wave of brilliant British players rose to the very top. Their extraordinary creativity created practical problems for even the strongest opponents and gave rise to some of the most memorable games of the modern era. @richardpalliser shows how you can harness some of this creativity and introduce it into your own play.

@ehscho The true path to endgame virtuosity ๐๐๐๐๐๐
English

@gmmds @FryRsquared very cool, i have to watch that. i canโt believe that openai has secured 40% of the world wide produced future ram to run with nvidia gpus that havenโt been developed yet ๐ฑback tp the ram stone age for the end users ๐ฆด๐ฟ
English

Came late to this one and only saw the first episode so far but I think (as always with @FryRsquared ) itโs going to be truly brilliant! bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00โฆ Thought-provoking and very human

Born 116 years ago today - Nicolas Rossolimo (1910-1975). Born in Kiev, in what was then the Russian Empire, he gained Greek citizenship & emigrated to France in 1929. In 1952 he emigrated again, to the USA.

@ehscho Sadly I donโt have the answer for you. Except for the obvious - if you see the best move, play it ๐
Is it 1.f4 here?

@MeerMaurits Was completely fine and even saw the critical move, but backed off because it looked too complicated. Played a safer move, lost the initiative, and then drifted into a tactical mess + decision-making just collapsed. How do you stop that downward spiral in sharp positions? ๐ค

English

@ehscho Oh thatโs unfortunate. Luckily, Aronian, Anand, Kasparov, and Topalov are always there to cheer you up again ๐
Want to share anything more about the loss? You donโt have to thoughโฆ

@depressed19732 @chessfeels why did no one tell me about this strategy ๐ฌ

@chessfeels @ehscho The first sip of liquor post classical game (result doesnโt matter) is better than any drug.

Had one of those OTB games where youโre doing everything reasonably wellโฆ
until you push a bit too hard and the position collapses into chaos. ๐ How do you get over a tough loss? #chesspunks

@ehscho Karpov v Kasparov.Game 24 1985 WC Match. Because it was perfectly poised, Karpov had to win to retain title Kasparov had to draw to win title.
Maybe Game 13 Spassky vs Fischer because it was a great struggle but quite flawed.
English

@MeerMaurits oh beautiful, i need that to cheer me up after a shitty loss today
English

@ehscho I particularly like Aronian-Anand, Wijk aan Zee 2013. But Kasparov-Topalov, Wijk aan Zee 1999 is also awesome ๐
