Increasingly convinced that naturally occuring substances that strongly interact with the nervous system should not necessarily be banned, but encouraged to be used in a ritualistic (rather than routine) manner in healthy people. Traditional practices seem to point at that idea, e.g. tobacco used in hapé ceremonies, wine for eucharistic rites, ganachakra feasts in Tibetan buddhism, ancient Taoists adding cannabis into ritual incense burners, etc. and of course many other ones with a long history of ceremonial use like Ayahuasca and psilocybin. The social/spiritual dimensions combined with controlled doses, low frequency, and thoughtful set & setting may lead to better life outcomes than outright banning!
