I’m a little sad I only just noticed this detail, but it might be one of the most beautiful details I’ve ever realized. Ilya first tells Shane “I love you” in Russian, and when he realizes Shane isn’t responding or understanding, he says it again in a way Shane can understand.

i think some people (maybe who are newer to fandom idk) don’t grasp the concept that fanfiction does NOT need to be loyal to canon characterisations, and it more often than not isn’t.
the whole *point* of fic is to play with/expand/completely disregard canon. that’s the fun.
