Most people who criticise financial advisers are evaluating them from the wrong perspective. They’re asking: “Could I do this myself?” Their clients are asking: “Will I actually do it?” Those are completely different questions. The average investor doesn’t need help finding an S&P 500 fund. They need help: • Starting • Staying invested • Ignoring headlines • Avoiding emotional decisions • Following a plan for decades Investing knowledge is rare. Investing discipline is even rarer. That’s why people who know the most about investing often have the biggest blind spot when judging the value of financial advice.

@j1nv3st I agree, I think most of their business model is other people being scared to manage large amounts of money.

Your financial advisor is not your friend. They sell you the same market returns as a 0.15% index fund, then charge 1.5% annually to do it. Over 10 years on £1m, that's £296k in lost wealth. That's 34% less money in your pocket. The industry isn't built to make you rich. It's built to make them rich.

Some people aren’t interested in managing their own investments. Some of the points I see people mentioning also apply to Accountants and Solicitors, all the resources are out there to donthis stuff yourself but it’s always easier to have a professional take over if you aren’t interested in learning yourself. While it is standard to charge %, more Advisers are moving to charging an hourly rate rather than a % of AUM.

One week on and all the sales have nearly settled. I imagine the transfer will be complete by this time next week.

My largest holding is up over 10% this year. My portfolio is down nearly 8% YTD because $PLTR is down nearly 30% YTD. This is the reality of holding volatile individual shares.
