@sappiencer @staranchenko_cy @crunchydata A similar thing happens with upsert operations (insert into…on conflict…). We learned this the hard way in a previous company. A table’s serial (note: not bigserial) primary key hit (2^31)-1 but the table only had a few million rows.

@staranchenko_cy @crunchydata Only if no transactions were rolled back. When you insert a new record the sequence counter of bigserial is incremented, but when you perform ROLLBACK it isn't decremented. Actually it cannot in MVCC.

Need to count all the rows in a huge Postgres table? SELECT count(*) FROM table; That can be slow. You can ask the internal tables too. SELECT reltuples AS estimate FROM pg_class WHERE relname = 'table'; This is an estimate, but pretty close.

UPDATE #3: The SR 410/White River Bridge between Buckley and Enumclaw will remain CLOSED until further notice after a bridge strike today. Bridge inspectors will do further assessment tomorrow. Follow detour signs and use alt routes including SR 164, SR 18 and SR 167.
