I deeply respect Catholics striving to live our faith's high moral standards. But Catholic anti-war discourse misses two things: 1. It never grapples with the moral problem of allowing a regime that mass-executed 30,000+ protesters to acquire nuclear weapons. This wouid have far ranging implications, all of which are truly awful. Our discourse hardly even acknowledges any of this. 2. It offered no plausible alternative to armed conflict for preventing them from acquiring nukes. If war was out of the question for moral reasons, what then was the plan to deal with this very real problem? Because ignoring it isn't virtuous. Just war theory matters. The Holy Father's voice matters. But if grounded more in these realities, Catholic witness could have shaped public opinion before the war — not just opposed it in the aftermath. I would also like to hear more concrete, realistic ideas about how to move forward in a way that lives up to Catholic morals and achieves concrete aims.

@NonNobis79 Ya. Been to Israel…was treated far better in UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq as a Catholic for tolerance than the Israelis did.

@NonNobis79 Not really. The allies were in a state of total war between the powers before they started bombing. Was our logic perfect? Absolutely not…but we also were far less accurate with our bombing metric. None of those are Islamist talking points.

@NonNobis79 There are many problems in the Middle East, mostly caused by the British…but whole different story. And yes, I do believe Israel in the past 40 years has been the cause of most conflict.

@largea58 Israel has correctly presented Iran as the dangerous psychotic regime it truly is. Whether they have means of delivery (yet) is utterly irrelevant. Israel is the first line of defense and an invaluable strategic partner to the West, American isolationism is a pipedream.

@NonNobis79 Show me any country (outside of Israel) who said they had the means of delivery and were close to achieving a nuclear weapon. Israel has been claiming it for over 20+ years, so not much faith in there.
