We live in a P.T. Barnum society. The smart phone convinced everyone they were living in a movie and the algorithm rewarded those who wore the craziest clothes, said the most outrageous thing, or pulled off the insane stunt. Humans have long been fascinated by things they have never seen before. P.T. Barnum understood that attention and capital chased the circus. The more unbelievable something was, the more people wanted to see it. That is American society today. Millions of people competing with each other to be the star of the show for a day. Each photo or video uploaded to social media is an audition to be chosen as the main character for 15 minutes of fame. From children to the elderly, humans have slowly become a slave to the algorithm. Very few people are immune to the corny dances, dangerous pranks, or hot takes galore. Many pretend they don’t care or they are not a player in the game, but do not be fooled. P.T. Barnum’s society spares no one.

@nothingsoffpod 100% agree with you, today it’s almost like if you DON’T bet on the game you can’t enjoy it. It’s a new culture that if you are sitting there why not try to make some money?? Honestly the leagues have tapped out on tv money and need another revenue stream, REALLY??

Watching the NBA Finals last night, I couldn't help but think about how much sports have changed. Every commercial break, every timeout, every broadcast seems to include odds, parlays, or sportsbook promotions. I get it. It's big business. But as someone who hasn't placed a bet since December 2, 2024, I see it differently than I used to. What most people see as entertainment, I see as something that has the potential to become a very real problem for a lot of people. This isn't a shot at the NBA, BetMGM, or sports betting. It's just hard not to wonder if we've gone from sports and gambling coexisting to gambling becoming part of the product itself. Maybe I'm more aware of it because of my own experience. But I'm genuinely curious: sDo you think sports betting has enhanced the fan experience, or has it become a problem for the game? How much worse is this going to get before we see some major guard rails go up?
