the hardest hour of my week wasn't a hard problem. it was a $400 decision.
a conference ticket. I knew buying it would detonate my calendar - 8am to 10pm, every day, for a week. I sat there genuinely stressed about it.
then I remembered something I try to live by:
anxiety and fear are recognition of an opportunity.
think about what actually makes you anxious. it's never the meaningless stuff. you don't get butterflies before doing the dishes. you get them before the things that *matter* - the pitch, the hard conversation, the bet you're not sure you should make.
the stress isn't a stop sign. it's a signal. it's your body pointing at something and saying: this one counts. go.
so I've started treating fear as a compass instead of a brake. when something scares me, that is increasingly the exact reason I do it.
I bought the ticket. the week was brutal. it also produced the best connection I've made in months - a department chair who's now opening doors for me into industry.
the stress was real. it was also just my body recognizing this was worth doing.
next time you feel that knot before a decision - don't talk yourself out of it. let it point you.

chemical engineering simulation software has a learning curve steeper than Everest and a UX that feels actively hostile to the human using it.
and we've just... accepted this. for decades.
an entire industry of brilliant people losing hours to tools that are supposed to help them.
no. not anymore.
