Anyone who knows the International Committee of the Red Cross knows that their official policy is to never speak out (icrc.org/en/document/co…) Which is why such a statement by the ICRC president is so exceptional, and why you should listen. Here's what she says: "The things I saw [in the European Gaza hospital] is beyond anything that anyone should be in a position to described. What shocked me the most were the children, with atrocious injuries and at the same time having lost their parents with no-one looking after them. We are facing a situation here that will not be healed by sending in more trucks. We need to provide protection to the civilians in Gaza, to the women and children, to the elderly people that I saw today that have nowhere to go... We have to find solutions to this. We can't turn away from what is evidently a moral failure in the face of the international community."

UN Secretary-General António Guterres: “What we are witnessing in Gaza is a killing of civilians [especially children] that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict since I am Secretary-General. As you know, we report every year on children killed in armed conflicts by different actors. I have already presented seven reports, and in these reports the highest number of children killed in one year by one actor was the Taliban in 2017-8. The second by the Syrian government and its allies, before 2020, and it was around 700. We’ve had Russia last year: 350. We had Saudi Arabia, if you remember the uproar in relation to Yemen. In one year, the maximum was 300. Now, without entering into discussion about the accuracy of the numbers that were published by the authorities in Gaza, what is clear is that we’ve had in a few weeks thousands of children killed. So this is what matters”.

The internet on my e-sim is not enough for much but whenever I get the chance I check tweets of normal life. Some celebrity wearing Dior. Poster of a new movie. Short clip of a wedding. Family having a picnic. And I feel happy that people are not going through what we are going through. Peace exists on the other side of the world. It’s so close we could touch it. Life seemed so promising to me and I worked really hard to make something of my kids. I raised them with love and care. Their father was coming in December, this month, after finishing his MA studies. For two years, Faisal, Jawad and Rita had nothing to wait for but the idea of meeting their father in December. One small family of 5. We made jokes about how we’re meeting him and that Jawad will curse him for leaving us because this middle child’s mouth has always been uncontrollable. I am not writing my final words, no!I just want you to know Palestinians here wanted to live and have normal lives. They wanted nothing but peace. And the story goes way beyond the 7th of October. Way way beyond!
