Most companies don’t have systems. They have people who haven’t quit yet. The day they leave, everything breaks.

Good take, but let’s not pretend documenting everything magically solves it. Even the best systems can’t fully replace context, intuition, and edge-case judgment that “Steve” has built over years. The real question is: are we trying to eliminate tribal knowledge, or just make sure it’s not locked in one person’s head?

Manufacturing has SOPs, manuals, and systems. Knowledge work has… "Ask Steve, he knows how it works." That's not a process. That's a single point of failure wearing a lanyard.
