FINALLY: A most importantly, this is not a woe is post. This is not a story of victimhood or anything of the sort. This is my choice. I don’t usually like to discuss figures but for my first job (which I was in for 4 years) as a full time Politics Lecturer there - my salary was £23,000 a year BEFORE tax. So all to distill the myth of the cushy academic salaries. Those days are gone. A simple look on any website will show you these figures too.
