Happy 32nd Birthday to my favorite game, Final Fantasy VI, released for Super Famicom in Japan on April 2, 1994! 🥳 Final Fantasy II, III, and V were not released in the U.S. at the time, so Final Fantasy VI was released as Final Fantasy III for SNES on October 11, 1994. Final Fantasy VI is truly special and is frequently listed among the greatest games ever made. It is incredible that such a masterpiece was developed in about one year. The story takes place 1,000 years after the War of the Magi, and magic was thought to be lost. Technology, such as iron and steam engines, took its place, but magic is reawakened. Players start with Terra, who can innately use magic and breaks free from the servitude of an evil empire early in the game. The cast grows to 14 playable characters, including my favorite character, a former imperial general named Celes (who I am dressed as here). There are so many incredible characters in this game with compelling backstories, reactions, and growth shaped by the ruinous events around them. I will not say too much, but I urge you to play it if you have not yet! The profound story and fantastic characters are further enhanced by Uematsu’s elegant soundtrack, which features some of the most beautiful music in gaming. Terra’s Theme, Aria di Mezzo Carattere, Dancing Mad, and Searching for Friends are highlights for me, but I will gleefully listen to every track. The gameplay is fantastic, with an Active Time Battle system and ability customization through magicite and Espers (summons). I made a Celes cosplay a few years ago, and I am so thankful for the lovely work by Lillian Lu for the cosplay photo. I put it on again last night, this time for a fun gaming shoot! Final Fantasy VI is so important to me, and though I can never say enough to do it justice, I am so happy to celebrate it today ❤️
