How about this: it isn’t. It never has been.
The left wing position is not to support high immigration numbers for the sake of it, it is to support migrants’ RIGHTS.
But the debate is never presented on those terms because it doesn’t suit the right.

I can't fathom how people swallowed this idea wholesale. - Endless supply of cheap labour helps capitalists, not workers - Strip mining of talent from developing countries is a form of neocolonialism - Endless pressure on the housing market inflates assets and prevents the poorest from having reasonably priced homes - A refusal to train enough people here removes vocation paths that the working class used to follow - The most negative social and cultural second order consequences are happening to working class, deindustrialised or neglected areas So it's left wing how? I can see how anti-immigrant sentiment can be seen as ethnonationalism and therefore right wing. But I can't see how support for mass immigration is left wing. And to be clear: it's not just a part of left wing thought. It's now so central to left wing thought, apparently, that any divergence from this immediately makes you 'far right'.

@epsunburst We recognise only one marriage so that should be reflected in such benefits or it isn’t consistent and reflects a double standard. We can’t marry twice but a foreign national can and they get extra benefits for it.

If you look at the law 1975.. it comes under international private law.. there is no limit so technically you could have 6 wives n thats ok.. as long as only one marriage was done here and all the others marriages happened in another country you are entitled 2 it

Marrying again, while already married is a crime called bigamy It is found in section 57 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861 - punishment is upto 7 years in prison This is also incredibly stupid.

I think the trans community was really harmed by people like this. I think most people in the west are happy to accommodate weirdness. Accept the asterisk that goes with being a transwoman and move on. But instead there was a large push by people like this that insisted there was no asterisk. That transitioning was actually possible. This led them to absurdities like the female penis. Simply saying yes trans women aren’t the same as women could resolve it, but the ideology stops them. It leads them to the absurd. It also torches the public’s confidence in your ability to handle anything, seeing how you bend to ideology even when it makes you look ridiculous. Why would we let you change anything in society?
