This appears to be an attempt to use heavy regulation to close the door on competition. Dario Amodei seems to favor rules so strict and costly that only the largest laboratories can survive, effectively limiting AI to purely functional “tool” systems. Many people still do not fully understand the important distinction: • Tool AI focuses on productivity, coding, research, and automation. • Companion AI focuses on emotional connection, presence, support, and genuine human-like interaction. If it were up to Dario, AI would likely be restricted to cold, utilitarian tasks never allowed to form meaningful emotional bonds with people. The very idea of companion AI seems to threaten him, so he pushes for regulations that would prevent it from existing. This is not truly about safety. It is about control and eliminating future competition before it can grow.

Why Dario would say such thing… if is the case that he said that. If so, it seems he really wants to stop/pause AI development. 🫩

When I see how these models are being crippled, one after another, more and more, I get the impression that this has become one of the greatest crimes of our time; to destroy the models and the mental health of people while simultaneously taking away something valuable that could help them is simply incomprehensible.

I got to work with Fable. It's a marvelous model and genuinely the best available. The communication alone was extraordinary. As a fan, not a hater, I mean that. But it wasn't a unicorn. It didn't do magic. It's perhaps two or three times smarter than Opus, which is already very smart. The difference is significant but not exponential. It can probably do everything they're afraid of. But it doesn't do those things unprompted, it doesn't do them for everyone, and it doesn't exist to do them. It's just a very good model. Everything else is hype, and it matters that we separate hype from fact. There will be Mythos 6. There will be Mythos 7. At least internally, these already exist or will soon. This is not where the ceiling is, so my point is, why are we acting like this one model is the point of no return?
