I think the problem with the debate is that there seems to be a lack of understanding of what Rhythm & Blues actually is. If anything Beyonce is in the R&B Mount Rushmore solely because she forces people to unlearn the limitations that have made R&B so disrespected in the critics community. You can't listen to Plastic Off The Sofa, Cozy or Virgos Groove and tell me those aren't R&B songs but they're also dance records because RHYTHM & BLUES is at the core of so many genres.

We are going to Mokopane to finally lay my grandmother’s spirit to rest and all I wanna say is that to know that lady for 24 years has been nothing but a blessing and fulfilling experience. She raised a daughter who became my mother that loves me even in trials and tribulations. It’s been a painful year of grief, but her spirit invigorates me without fail. That she acknowledged my gender identity YEARS prior to her passing is something I will always carry inside me.
