To writers: we all hurt people. So don’t be afraid to let your character hurt people too. The instinct to protect them morally is strong and too often writers bend their plots to make sure their character is never morally compromised or that every fault of theirs is justified. But a character who’s never at risk for corruption can’t transform either (for better or for worse), which makes them less interesting. Don’t be afraid to let your characters do damage. Risk your character, risk your story, and in a way, risk yourself, risk being misunderstood
