Police are treating it as robbery and attempted murder, while reports say two men of “foreign appearance” fled the scene. Japan still has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world, around 0.2 to 0.3 per 100,000 people, which is almost unthinkable compared to most countries. As Japan’s foreign population doubled past 4 million, crimes involving foreigners have surged sharply.
