Kennedy said on @FoxNews "There are more than 100,000 monkeys in labs around the country for research purposes. There is another 20,000 that are imported every year and we are very concurred about that and we are trying to put an end to that completely." Some of those monkeys end up at Charles River Laboratories in Frederick, Maryland. 1,000 were held in limbo for years by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife. Investigators stopped their importation after claims that many were captured in the wild, which is prohibited. Those monkeys arrived at Dulles Airport. All were eventually released to Charles River. PETA believes AI is helping to end the importation of monkeys. Earlier this year, the FDA and NIH directed researchers to phase out live animal testing in favor of alternative technologies.
