Now in my opinion (which is maybe redundant to say because all market analysis is opinion), the textbook way to interpret this is as follows: 1) We broke down (pink) 2) We had consolidation in a rising wedge with a bull trap false breakout (orange) 3) We broke down again (red) 4) We are now reconsolidating in a horizontal range (blue) #4 technically indicates bearish continuation as a bear flag, and would of course be confirmed on a breakdown of the range, which just coincidentally now lines up with a 200d SMA failure Now, does that mean we can't break upwards out of this horizontal range and carry on to new highs in 2026? Absolutely not! And in fact, more often than not, US equity indexes tend to more often behave in that manner, because they are typically in an upward trend, and corrections are short lived And particularly so for the last 17 years during which time the majority of those reading this have likely cut their teeth trading (me included) It is probably -less often-, that bearish continuation behaves as bearish continuation on US equity indexes
