These are spread across 5–6 graduating classes, as many IMGs apply years after graduation. Pakistan is among the top IMG contributors to the U.S., alongside the Caribbean and India. Similar trends exist with graduates from Mexico, the Philippines, and others. Now the reality: Visit community hospitals across NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Brookdale, BronxCare, Interfaith, Lincoln, and many more. You will find minimal to no U.S. graduates in specialties like: ✅ Internal Medicine ✅ Family Medicine ✅ Pediatrics These are essential, underserved settings. If IMGs don’t step in, millions of patients lose access to care. As for IMGs in competitive specialties: They are exceptional candidates, MD/PhDs, strong research backgrounds, top scores. They earn those positions on merit. Let’s be clear: This is not about “taking spots.” This is about filling critical gaps in the healthcare system. Nepal was just BANNED from taking future USMLE exams because their entire COUNTRY was cheating on them and using those scores to apply to prestigious US residencies

Foreign medical students often cheat on the USMLE board exams to get a high score in order match at a residency program in America. There is no testing security in INDIA.

You want them to be a family medicine doctor who gets paid $200k a year, and NOW has to compete with midlevel "providers" who lobbied for states to let them do the same job?

@bobby_halstead @CortesSteve @MaryBowdenMD Exactly. The amount of cheating scandals that have been exposed over the years from foreign medical programs is SCARY. They have ZERO security at their testing centers, and those students cheat on the board exams which our residency programs consider.

Almost all senior US med students will get a residency, a few will have to scramble. The bigger issue is why would we have ANY foreign doctors in our residency programs? The solution is to expand the medical schools, and fill them with US born kids…they’re plenty of qualified kids that get turned down. Then fill residency spots with these kids.

How many IMG cheating scandals have been exposed? There should be no UNIVERISE where an IMG is EVER considered of a US MD. It is a risk to patients.

1. There are VERY few US medical med students that CAN'T get a spot. The vast majority that don't match are applying for specialties that are extremely competitive and refuse to apply to lower paying less competitive specialties. 2. While it makes sense for US citizen IMGs to be a priority over non US citizen IMGs, it is probably illegal to discriminate for a job using nationality as a criteria.
