@TheStalwart One type of American (i call them Trump Enjoyers, use whatever term you wish), finds the content tremendous. The other type of American, such as myself, feels something far less gleeful. I'm glad you're having such a nice time.

Has any tweet aged better than this one? It’s basically the defining ethos of the entire last decade. By some objective measure, it might be the best tweet of all time.

Let's return to proper British values. Like bringing back the Test and Corporation Acts, the Five Mile Act, the Conventicle Act, the necessity to subscribe to the 39 articles to be educated at university (etc). Sorry, not the British values you were looking for?

@art_pleb How about the USNS Harvey Milk? Do you think Harvey Milk ever touched an underage boy?

@warriorbob8155 @AmandaMilius ...although they drifted a bit later (especially "Third World"). "Second World" never had anything to do with the Habsburgs. You may be thinking of the Mitteleuropa concept. I'll leave you now, since I think you've made enough of a fool of yourself.

@warriorbob8155 @AmandaMilius The reason you should base your definitions of First, Second, and Third World on Souvy's definitions is because he invented the terms. As someone who wasted a couple of years studying International Relations, I can assure you that this is how the terms were originally used... 1/2

Melania Trump was born to a working class family in a second-world country, began modeling at 16, and over her 19-year career never generated a whiff of rumor about sexual relations with photographers, agents, or publishers. Gavin Newsom’s wife was born to a wealthy family in California, began acting at 28, and fucked Harvey Weinstein when she was 31.

@SlopHq In Mexico City and Guadalajara that's why motorcycle usage is so much lower than in Asia. It wasn't really intentional, the local governments compensate being unable to make the buses run in time by sending one every 5 minutes. And it works.

the thing that gets people on transit isn’t free fares it’s not having to check a schedule. a bus that costs $2 and comes every 6 minutes will outperform a free bus that comes every 30 minutes every single time. frequency is the product. the fare is a rounding error

My parents are both gone but I would love to ask them how they knew. My mom was a Prussian refugee and my dad was a Park Ranger, neither were involved politically, we didn't subscribe to any newspapers and we didn't even own a TV. But somehow they just knew. When I came home from school talking about Martin Luther King Jr and Caesar Chavez they told me both those men were corrupt womanizers and not to listen to anything my teachers said about them. Any body else out there have that experience? Did my mom's suffering under Hitler give her special insight into charismatic leaders or did my parents just have crazy discernment?

Mono-culture farming devastates the rest of nature. Farmlands continue to lose much of their wildlife, bees, birds, insects, amphibians. But each generation measures "normal" nature against what existed in their childhood; not what existed before. So we don't mourn the Auroch, Quagga, Eastern Elk, or drained wetland. We never knew them. We each inherit a slightly emptier world & call it normal, a shifting baseline syndrome. Humans are remarkably adaptive... dangerously so.

@theronrockstone @CartoonsHateHer @econosopher @Sanilac_J Do you think the average man gives a hoot about “presenting their wives/girlfriends socially?” I understand that *some* men are so status-obsessed that it nullifies their own preferences, but how common do you think this is among men in general?

A husband-hunting expert released a guide for how women can look sexier to find a rich, handsome husband--but it was light on proof. I have the proof to back up (and refute) some of her claims. Link in replies.

Activist: "The water usage for beef is obscene. Thousands of litres per kilogram." Farmer: "That's rainfall." Activist: "What?" Farmer: "The figure includes all the rain that falls on the pasture. The cows drink from the stream. The rain falls whether there's a cow here or not." Activist: "It's still water consumption." Farmer: "Should I stop the rain falling on my field?" Activist: "Grow crops instead. More efficient." Farmer: "This is a 35-degree slope in the Welsh hills. Show me the crop." Activist: "Technology..." Farmer: "To make tractors climb mountains?" Activist: "There must be a solution." Farmer: "There is. It's called a cow." Activist: [checks phone]
