So is it now official? “SuwaSeriya” has been dropped from the name and the logo and colours have been changed, at least on paper. The question is when was “1990 Sri Lanka Emergency Medical Service” established? Under what law? What are its objectives? It states clearly this service is “emergency AND pre hospital care. Because what we established by “1990 SuwaSeriya Act No 18 of 2018” is purely a ‘pre hospital care’ ambulance service. By law SuwaSeriya cannot transport patients intra-hospital even in an emergency. The objective was and must continue to be ‘pre hospital care’. If it is to be changed the law must be changed and necessary accreditations must be obtained. What a circus this has become!

Since his arrest, President Wickremesinghe has faced severe health problems stemming from a chronic illness. It is the duty of all governments to guarantee their citizens receive proper care and are allowed to defend themselves unconstrained throughout judicial proceedings. We call on Sri Lankan authorities to release him from custody so that he can receive proper medical treatment and supervision during the course of his trial.

Had a fruitful meeting here in New York with a section of the Sri Lankan community on the unfolding economic landscape and possible investment opportunities back home. On a private visit to the US and on the invitation of Mr Lal Ranasinghe met a cross section of locals in the area. Reminisced about how and why I decided to shift back to Colombo 32 years ago this month leaving behind a what would have been a lucrative personal career. My decision was based on how I can contribute to Sri Lanka and I continue to do my best for my country at every possible opportunity undeterred by politically motivated criticism.

The government has allocated Rs.50,761,900 (5 crores) through a tender for 700 pieces of wire codes with plug tops costing Rs. 72,517 each. Actual cost in the market is only 11,000 Rs each. The tender was given to AKD’s friend Ishara Nanayakkara's company. #lka #npp #jvp
