@eurogamer I don't recall breath of the wild getting critiqued for having an undercooked/uninteresting/predictable story, but I guess it gets a pass because it's zelda and nobody expects that
Crimson Desert is a technically proficient game with killer combat (pesky lock-on aside). Yet its characters and story are fatally undercooked.

The publisher and developer of Crimson Desert has seen its stock price plunge nearly 30% in what is seen as a reaction to review scores. bit.ly/4bRPENL
@Maldrick_@GermanStrands KCD is actually a very good example. I was rattling my brain to think of another game in recent times that reviewers didn't seem to like that much but was actually peak. You just made me more excited to play CD with this comment so thank you
@ClinchWizard@GermanStrands Reviewers have always largely been a bunch of hacks. I found some of my old mags from the 90s a while back. Could probably find some nuggets from back then in those. Thought that then, too.
Reviewers gave KCD low scores because there isn't magic and dragons. Clowns.
@Tiavor@Grummz most of them seem to be claiming upwards of 100 hours which, even if it is an incredibly deep game with 10000 different mechanics and features, should be long enough to get an idea
@the_grantelbart@ethangach BOTW is so densely packed with discovery i can't believe you would say it's empty. TOTK was a misstep for me (and many others) because the numerous traversal options make the moment to moment discovery and exploration of the world far less engaging and frequent
Deandre Ayton says he finally realized that he’s not that guy.
“I just started looking in the mirror and said ‘Yo bro,… you’re not that guy. You don’t need to be on this team doing that at all. This team, you came here to be the effort guy.’”

@ethangach I'm glad it's not because BOTW sucks lmao
If that game didn't have the Zelda name in it, it would have been called empty and boring.
It was never a great game, and it was always a horrible Zelda game. If you're so hung up about a game just barely not getting 80, just stop playing
@ethangach@the_grantelbart Youtube reviewers are saying it is breath of the wild. Only journalists who want to get through the next game, pump out a review and get paid don't like it. It's arduous and challenging, and these journos can't get through the cuphead tutorial.
@the_grantelbart Lots of 7.7s don't sell an estimated 400,000 pre-orders and top the Steam wishlist charts.
I hope people have fun with the game and it sounds like a good foundation for a sequel but SOME people were out here talking like it might be Breath of the Wild.
@SynthPotato Journalists seem to not like it, but youtubers that actually play games are acting like it's the 2nd coming of christ. I know which camp I trust more.
