@DrJRLiebana @pompeii_sites That's very kind - and wonderful to hear. Many thanks indeed (and my apologies for taking ages to reply; I am not often on X these days, but truly appreciate your post).

Read in one sitting: a compelling, utterly enthralling book. @DaisyfDunn masterfully weaves the private lives of the 2 Plinys and their lasting influence—from Renaissance scholars to Romantic poets—into a vivid tapestry of the Roman world, starting with @pompeii_sites catastrophe

'The Missing Thread: A Women's History of the Ancient World' by Daisy Dunn is a vibrant reimagining of the ancient world that pulls women—from poets to queens—out of the footnotes and back into the center of the historical narrative. #BookOfTheDay: on.nypl.org/47hptgK

I am so enjoying this book by @DaisyfDunn--Oxford between the wars, with three important Classicists--Maurice Bowra, E.R. Dodds & Gilbert Murray. Gossipy and full of great characters and scenes and cameos. Would make an excellent film or series?

@ae_stallings @DaisyfDunn Thanks for the recommendation. My public library supplied me with a copy and I greatly enjoyed it. Had it not been for your post, I would probably have avoided it because of the focus on Brideshead in the title, which was presumably meant to appeal to a different audience.

Who survived the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 – and where did they go? Steven L. Tuck has traced 173 survivors from #Pompeii and Herculaneum to 12 nearby cities. I've reviewed his fascinating book for the Wall Street Journal this weekend wsj.com/arts-culture/b… @WSJBooks

Part2 of #TroyStory is excellent: shows how excavations subsequent to Schliemann, using modern techniques, have advanced our understanding of the site, + some very helpful context regarding the Bronze Age collapse. No @Jorrit_Kelder , but @DaisyfDunn & @digkabri were grand!

@ae_stallings @DaisyfDunn Very good read so far. Gilbert Murray and Howard Castle family. Sounds so Evelyn Waugh too. I never was into Shaw and never read/saw Major Barbara, but LOL at the cheek.

Io, #Saturnalia! I hope your floors look like this by the end of the Roman holiday and your tables are as bird-filled by Christmas Day (a 5th-century mosaic from the eastern Mediterranean, now at Chateau de Boudry, Switzerland)
