@TeslaFamilyYT @mattjouk I never see any value in buying new cars and generally only spend £4-5k so I guess none of those perks apply to me.. I will probably look to get an EV in the coming years once I run my current car into the ground but I’ll be at the mercy of the public charging network

🐙 No Driveway? @OctopusEnergy have you covered. If you lease an EV with Octopus, you can choose between these extra perks if you park on the street: ⚡️50% off kerbside charging with Ubitricity and Connected Kerb.
Or ⚡️Up to £800 worth of public charging credit with Electroverse for a new car, or £400 if you choose an approved used EV. ⚡️Have a driveway? If you'd prefer to charge at home, you can swap the public charging perks for a free or discounted home charger on selected models. 🩷⚡ email.octopusev.com/-/m/view-onlin…

Diesel's gone up 40p per litre in a single month. I plugged in last night at 5.2p/kWh and woke up to a full car for less than an cheap filter coffee at Starbucks. Even the cheap stuff! At some point the maths just speaks for itself.

@mattjouk @TeslaFamilyYT No it’s not.. all theses smug ev owners being able to charge at night for cheap, great! Well done! Some empathy could be shown towards those that can’t transition to an all electric lifestyle for various reasons. My landlord has already said no to me having a charger installed

I remember the last time I had to queue for fuel, but thankfully I don't need to do that anymore. ‘No fuel at all’: Belfast petrol stations run dry or near empty as Iran war drives UK pump prices to three-year high.

@EVPuzzle @graeme_cobb You could show some empathy towards those that can’t transition to an all electric lifestyle for various reasons. I’m renting so the landlord isn’t going to be arsed about retrofitting with heat pump, solar/batteries and ev charging points unless it becomes mandatory

The EV Puzzle
The EV Puzzle@EVPuzzle·
@graeme_cobb It should be obvious by now and the benefits of adding solar and batteries at home too but no, the masses still have their head in the sand preferring gas boilers to heat pumps and gas guzzlers to EVs Really should be taxing the polluters much more to help encourage people away

⚡️🚙 EVs Are The Future of Surface Transportation It should be evident to everyone now that EVs are the future of surface transportation. They may not be perfect yet, but there is a clear path to achieve that with huge progress in battery and charging technologies seemingly flowing through at a pace, whether it’s MG’s semi-solid state batteries launching in the MG 4 Urban later this year, or BYD and their Flash Charging add just under 90% charge in 9 minutes - also coming to the U.K. Battery costs are now under $80 kWh having been $1000 kWh 1.5 decades ago. It’s only a matter of time now before most people choose an EV, but there really is nothing to fear. This is a market disruption and EVs are about to hit the vertical part of the S curve. For now, there is so much choice in powertrains as the electrify, whether it’s hybrid, plug-in hybrid, Range Extenders or a full Battery Electric Car. Without a doubt, cars are getting better through electrification. In my opinion, they’re best without the engine.

The average UK home uses between 225 - 283 kWh of electricty a month. In March on my rooftop in Wales I produced so far 482 kWh.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿⚡️ I've got 15 panels & almost the smallest invertor you can have. (4 kW) Washing ✅☀️ Cooking ✅⛅️ Cleaning ✅🌤️ Battery storage.🔋 No one blocks the sun. We need more rooftop solar and battery storage. @OctopusEnergy installed mine. octopusreferral.link/solar-panels-i…

Ed’s new plan is plug in solar. Significant reductions is misinformation. Average kit costs £300-£600. It will take 3-7 years to pay back that cost in energy bill reduction. BUT … the plug in solar only has a 2 year warranty at best. All made in China using coal and oil 🤡

@rhydy @richardbrunning Which is an EV tariff! If octopus finds out that you’ve knowing broken the T&C’s you’ll be backdated charges to your account at standard rate and could cost many pennies

My electric tariff falls to 5.5p/kWh overnight in a couple of weeks. The daytime rate is 35p though so I figured a 12kw inverter coupled to a 15kwh battery charged at the overnight price can be used during the day. ROI is 3 years... No brainer surely.

@richardbrunning @DevonianDaz Would the energy supplier know you're charging a standalone battery and not an EV, overnight??? No idea what you have to do to qualify for those tariffs, but just be able to trick it??? Be surprised if it's not been done already!!!

@Omnicentrist But a failing power grid means that the pumps will stop working too 🙃

I won’t be driving an EV. I would rather pay top dollar for diesel. At least I know I don’t need a failing power grid to be able to travel.

People who drive antiquated ICE cars ask: “What if you run out of battery?” Fair question… assuming petrol stations always have fuel. But what if they don’t? My charger is at home, always available. Yours depends on a volatile supply chain and geopolitics. #Bettrification

Driving up and down the UK last night, I saw diesel at £1.85 per litre. Unleaded was £1.54 at the same station. 😱 For EV owners, @OctopusEnergy are sending out their tariff updates, which look like they are reducing the costs to consumers from 1st April. If you’re on Intelligent Octopus Go, it’ll be even cheaper than 7p to charge overnight. Tell me how fuelling up at the pumps makes sense right now! 👍⚡️
