The TTK was a problem with higher shields. It's not like we didn't try them. I don't find marathon much deeper then other games and co streaming with a friend I've played many. I never had gear fear in Marathon. It's childs play to Tarkov anyways. Gun play in Marathon is floaty and lacks innertia and no I'm not a Bungie fan past halo 3. I don't find the graphics any better then EU5 games. I find the art style getting in the way of the HUD in game leading to loosing team mates. I had 30 hours in Marathon in the server slam and yes my Tarkov hours are reliant as well as my 400 Arc hours are because everyone on this platform likes to act pass judgment on people.

The TTK is not at all problematic once you get higher shields. I haven’t heard that as a problem after the first week when we all had white and green shields still. Idk how it’s boring when it’s one of the most in depth games out there. Have you at all interacted with the priority quest with the factions and got them above level 20? You start to see ways to get your stuff back and into matches and gear fear becomes nonexistent. Gunplay feels smooth if you are a fan of halo or destiny. Art I don’t care for but easily don’t pay attention when I’m In a firefight what the gun looks like. As far as graphics I think they are really s tier along with the audio. How many hours do you have in marathon? Your hours in tarkov aren’t relevant here.

kind of a shame how many people would probably LOVE Marathon, but won't ever give it a chance. every week I see more and more people change their tune on the game. I hope everyone that would love it can eventually get over whatever is holding them back and give it a try 💜

Tried server slam after the bad beta and the art theft scandal. So I gave it a shot. I've got over 1k hours in tarkov so you can't tell me I'm some 'casual'. I found Marathon boreing. The TTK problematic. Lack of duo's something it needed day 1. Art style far too childish and over simplified for the sweaty player it demands. I would have never made this game.

Incorrect, it is good and the reason it hasn’t gotten more people on it is the art bullshit scandal last year and the early alpha and betas. I played those and didn’t enjoy it but full game release has been great. If you like PvP, halo and or destiny gunplay and feel then you’ll love marathon. The people against the game are retarded and just copy pasting and not using their own brains.

@Morphologis @BeardedTea Can we be honest about this. What are the odds a "early backer" still exclusively uses their Mk1 and doesn't have better options and still plays this game years later. Feels like dishonest outrage.

The car comparison doesn’t really apply—this is a starter package, not a physical product. It’s your interface with the game. The Mk1 was built before many current systems existed, so it doesn’t support them well. The Mk2 effectively replaces it at the same price, but without a 1:1 upgrade path, early backers have to spend more just to reach the same starting point as new players. That’s why people are upset.

Really surprised by the Aurora MK2, it seems like the Titan could be dethroned as the best starter for value and utility. I'm only upset for how existing aurora owners aren't given any special upgrade offer, paid or otherwise.

If you're surprised Marathon turned out this well, I'm with ya. This time last year, I had all but written it off after trying that dreadful alpha with the cartoony art, no solo mode, and no prox chat. But Bungie made great changes and clearly knew what it had that other extraction shooters didn't. pcgamer.com/games/fps/mara… #pcgamer #pcgaming #marathon

Show me where we can independently review concurrency for Tarkov in 2019. Also where does this 40k come from. Your best guess lmao? And we are seriously trying to have a discussion about a harder core extraction shooter that is a decade old with a game made by the A team FPS shooters that is less then a month old. What kinda low IQ conversation are you trying to drag this into?

@Digitrevx @A_PrincessMarie @Zackbeva27 Escape from Tarkov's peak player count was in 2019 when it was still in beta at around 250k concurrent. Right now it's somewhere around 25-40k. Is tarkov a dead game?

Disagree. Arc does not teach you about the brutality of its game or its process, imo it’s just slower, but it does have a tutorial. People are intimidated by Marathon being more cut throat and frustrating. It was sold that way by design, and it’s why it didn’t sell a lot of units. That’s why purchasers of the title have reviewed it positively and why the game’s player counts, although comparatively lower than arc, have stabilized - people bought a cut throat extraction game that THEY wanted. Arc has more players because arc is considerably more casual friendly and considerably less frustrating. Arc is “the extraction game for every man”. Marathon is not that and never was that, and @Ziegler_Dev has said 1000 times that this game would not be for everyone.

Marathon has sold 1.2M copies across Steam, PS5, and Xbox (@alineaanalytics estimates). It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted, even if the game underneath the surface is a MASTERWORK of design. Looking at the split between Steam, PS5, and Xbox, Steam is clearly the main platform for Marathon, accounting for a little under 70% of the audience (800K copies sold). Meanwhile, PS5 takes about 19% (217K) and Xbox (including console, PC, and cloud) accounts for a bit over 11% or 133K. Marathon is technically a first-party Sony title, so seeing the home console struggle to break 20% of the volume is a notable data point for the ongoing platform-agnostic debate. PlayStation Studios online games will almost certainly continue being multiplatform (despite Sony reportedly pulling back on PC releases). One topic that came up in a lot of conversations at GDC this year was why Marathon hasn’t hit the same stratosphere as Arc Raiders. On paper, they’re both extraction shooters, and Marathon has the Bungie pedigree – the house that built the gold standard for gunplay in Halo and Destiny. My answer: Players understand the Arc Raiders loop within 30 minutes, while Marathon's UI acts as a massive filter, chewing up newcomers and spitting them out before they can experience the depth of Bungie’s signature gunplay and Marathon's awesome gameplay loop. The Steam copies sold during each game's respective Server Slam paint a picture there. Arc Raiders saw a massive 80% jump in copies sold during its three-day Server Slam. Marathon, meanwhile, saw a 49% increase in the four days following its Slam (Day -7 to -3). Despite the friction-heavy start, the data suggests that those who survived Marathon’s onboarding are loving life. We’ve been tracking cross-platform DAUs, and while there’s the expected post-launch leakage, many players are sticking with it. After peaking at 478K total DAUs on its first Saturday, Marathon has settled into a respectable rhythm, holding 345K DAUs as of yesterday and averaging 380K DAUs across the weekend. On Steam, Marathon’s average playtime has climbed to 27.8 hours, significantly outpacing the console averages on PS5 (16.5h) and Xbox (17.3h). Even more telling than the averages: 22% of the Steam audience has surged past the 50-hour mark, and nearly 7% have already logged over 100 hours. PlayStation and Bungie are at a crossroads here. They can: 1. Double down on Marathon with a long-term Rainbow Six Siege- or No Man’s Sky-style recovery plan, which is something I heard @ChrisRGun smartly mention last week on Sacred Symbols. While this could be a sunk-cost fallacy in action, it could eventually yield the audience the game’s mechanical depth deserves. 2. Shift focus toward the inevitable Destiny 3 or another project, mitigating the escalating opportunity cost and cutting their losses, so to speak. Doing both is an expensive proposition, given the high overhead and burn rate of operating out of Bellevue, Washington. With Sony recently demonstrating a lower threshold for underperforming studios and projects, the margin for error has vanished. Whatever happens, the next six months will determine whether Marathon becomes a cornerstone of Sony’s live-service portfolio or a cautionary tale of vision exceeding accessibility. I’m hoping it’s the former, because Marathon fucking rocks. Big analysis on the free Substack, with lots more data and thoughts (link in bio)

I love how he takes Ziegler talking points which is corporate deflection and ignores the reality he represents a studio. A business created to make money. Like having the most customers possible isn't ideal and Sony just bought us at the tune of 3.7gigabil to make a tiny niche game for him and his fine art friend group. 🤣 This is actually the same level of clownery as "We don't need big player counts to be successful". Remember that one?

Marathon is under a month old with it's pinnacle content released and continues to trend down despite the manufactured marketing hype. We don't need a comparison to see where this is going. It's far from a success and will require a lot of changes to course correct if even possible.

If we base it off a single month track then you could pick a point out of any 3 month block of time and either say that hunt is increasing in numbers or losing tons of players. Hunt is also 9 years old, Crytek laid off 15% of its staff a year ago, and in that 9 years sold 7 million units. FOR ALL THAT they've never seen consistent player counts above 40k peak, and their highest ever was when they did the 1896 update for like... 3 days at 60k
