It’s a sad thing that the discussion of ‘the normalisation of violence’, is so rarely extended to male victims of abuse, particularly those at the hands of women.
Because, by any metric, such acts of female-to-male violence are not only normalised, but routinely mocked, minimised, waved away, and scoffed at.
A man who lays his hands on a woman in the street, can expect to be quickly confronted by the public.
And yet, a woman who lays her hands on a man in the street, can expect to be pointed and laughed at, filmed, or at best, ignored entirely.
It’s not just the stunts that play out these exact situations that show this; but research, also shows that we simply see violence by women as less severe, less impactful, and less deserving of a police intervention.
And it’s not just the public who hold these views, but professionals, experts in the field, and even psychologists too.
So let’s take a look at the double standards of domestic violence.
