@EvidenceMatters

because science reporting and decision-making should be evidence-based. NB: statistics can have a social life and unspoken biography behind them.

My daughter, a resident doctor with a worsening condition which has not responded to self-care and an initial telephone consultation with a GP and prescription, has just been told she can't see a GP - it has to be a "physician associate who can do everything a doctor can."

If you stop taking blood pressure meds, your BP goes up. We call that medicine. If you stop taking GLP-1s, your weight goes up. Scientists are calling it "weight recidivism"—a term for convicted criminals. Why is obesity still treated as a moral failure?

The @ChelwestFT has also carried out a review of Jabbar's patients - but unlike @GreatOrmondSt it has chosen secrecy. Sources tell me a significant number of harmed cases have been found but the trust would not say if it had even informed families. @CareQualityComm @wesstreeting

🚨 EXC: @GreatOrmondSt surgeon Yaser Jabbar now confirmed to have harmed between 85 and 100 children at the world famous hospital. Some have lifelong derformed limbs. Insiders say trust managers have failed to tackle deeper cultural problems: thetimes.com/article/90e30d…

Bravo! @hmkyale explains that our choice is between ‘a system that has finally integrated the science of aging into cardiovascular care or one that continues to treat our most common patients as exceptional cases. Our science must finally and fully reflect the people we serve’.

@FionaQuigs Yes. Transactional medicine is rubbish for anything serious/important and dissatisfaction results for both parties

We forget that patients are people who need face to face interaction the majority of the time. This is both to get diagnosed and treated but JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, to feel cared for and looked after. The more serious the problem the more important it is. We forget this at our peril.

@DrSdeG @FionaQuigs MIT's Sherry Turkle said that one of the lessons of the pandemic was that it taught us what was and was not amenable to being digital rather than F2F. She identified education and healthcare - specifying age group of young children & older people with complex disorders for F2F.

@DrDuaneRD I had to resort to a proofer as it was impossible to find somewhere warm enough for the dough to rise in a reasonable timescale. Looking good.

@allyc375 It's so difficult to understand the mindset of people like that. I'm sorry for the mess this brings to your door.

@DrSdeG @LucyGoBag Agreed. There is no circumventing the long-term consequences of the impact on consultants and the development/succession planning.

@LucyGoBag It was much easier to refer patients during strike times too. But jr docs need to learn to become the consultants of the future x

This is VERY important (and could lead to the difficult conclusion that things actually run…better?) 😮

Interesting post about the possible consequences of patients leaving it late in the day to notify the anaesthesia team of mounjaro use. tl;dr changed risk assessment and needed precautionary intubation to prevent aspiration from delayed gastric emptying. reddit.com/r/mounjarouk/c…?
